Mary Mazurek Heslin

Mary Mazurek Heslin is an active member of ACPC Affiliate, the Polish Cultural Club of Greater Hartford, Connecticut. Mary was born m Hartford, the daughter of Sophie Janda and John Thomas Mazurek. She received her graduate degrees from the University of Connecticut - BA English; and Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut - MA History. She is the widow of Attorney Thomas P. Heslin and has four children and nine grandchildren.

Her professional and service career spans four decades during which she taught secondary school English, Government and Economics; served as Deputy Mayor and Council woman. City of Hartford; Commissioner of Consumer Protection, State of Connecticut; Principal, Heslin Consulting and Executive Director for Public Policy, Association of Food and Drug Officials. She has taken part in numerous activities connected to her professional life such as TV Consumer Commentaries, City of Hartford; Chairman Planning and Zoning Committee, City of Hartford; Guest lecturer, University of Hartford, Connecticut; Conference Delegate from US to Vienna, Austria at the Voices of Democracy Convention, just to mention a few.

Mary's dedication to Polish Agendas has taken her most recently to Chair (Program) the ACPC Convention held in Hartford, CT in 2009.

She served: on the Central CT State University Advisory Board; as Chairman of the Community Advisory Committee for the establishment of the Kosciuszko Squadron Exhibit at the New England Air Museum and raising funds for the project. She is one of ten new corporators for the newly established museum at Elms College, Chicopee, Massachusetts for the "Center for Polish Studies and Culture". Mrs. Heslin as a member of Hartford City Council, has served as a contact for the Polish Community in Greater Hartford with numerous State and National officials.

Her awards, too numerous to mention all, include: Polonia Distinguished Service Award; Woman of the Year, Greater Hartford Jr. Chamber of Commerce; Woman of the Year, Connecticut Veterans of Foreign Wars; Mother of the Year, National Polish Women's Alliance; Harvey Wiley Award, Association of Food and Drug Officials and Outstanding Citizen, Polish American Congress.

With all her activities. Mary Heslin has also found time to write many articles on consumerism which have been published in many publications connected with the trade.
