Eminowicz-Waldo, Stefania

Stage actress and singer. Born in Poland, 1895, nee Hareski; together with her husband Thaddeus Eminowicz, whom she married in 1910 in Chicago, she rendered services in Polish theatres appearing in different cities of U.S. since 1908 when she arrived in this country. Played over 800 parts during more than a quarter of a century, unusually versatile talent, equally fine in comedy as well as in drama and musical comedy. Became a widow in 1917.

Married Arthur L. Waldo, a journalist and writer in 1924.

In 1928 the Polish press and Polish organizations of U.S. paid her a high tribute for her splendid work on the stage propagating the Polish culture on the American soil. At that time she was decorated by Poland with a Cross of Independence, Cross of the Legion and Defender of Poland Medal. In 1939 she visited Poland with her daughters and went through the horrors of the "Blitzkrieg," working as a Polish Red Cross nurse. Returned to America in 1940.
