Lojas, Helen (Mother Mary Edmunda)
Superior General of Bernardine Sisters, Third Order of St. Francis. Born in Shenandoah, Pa., January 1, 1898; daughter of Jacob Lojas and Julianna Pyzowska. Made her perpetual vows in the community life of Bernardine Sisters, July 24, 1916. In 1932 Catholic University, Washington, D.C. awarded her A.B. degree and later in 1934 the same University granted her M.A., degree. Directress of Schools and General Adviser of Bernardine Sisters from 1924 to 1929. Directress of Studies, 1932-1942. Adviser and General Secretary of the above religious community from 1936 to 1942. Taught at following parochial schools: St. Josephat's, Manayunk, Pa.; Ss. Peter and Paul, Scranton, Pa.; Immaculate Conception, Wilkes Barre, Pa.; St. Casimirs, Riverside, N. J.; Holy Name, Stamford, Conn.; St. Ladislaus, Philadelphia, Pa.; also taught in the High School and Normal School of the Bernardine Sisters Motherhouse at Reading, Pa.
