Walter A. Ossowski -- Philadelphia musician

Walter A. Ossowski is a native Philadelphian whose active musical career as a conductor, violinist, arranger and teacher spans the last fifty years.

He began his musical education with violin lessons at St. Adalbert's School and continued at Maustbaum Vocational School and the Settlement Music School. He pursued advanced violin study under I. Siekierka, a former member of the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestras.

Over the years, Mr. Ossowski's musical activities have been both numerous and varied. During the 1940s and 50s he served as Music Arranger for music publishers Joseph Krygier, Ignacy Podgorski, and Al Berkman Studios. For over twenty-five years Walter Ossowski and His Orchestra were heard twice weekly performing intemational music on the radio throughout the Delaware Valley. While under contract with RCA during the 1940s and 50s, Mr. Ossowski recorded popular Polish and Polish-American dance music. His popularity as a dance orchestra leader has kept Mr. Ossowski and his orchestra members in high demand for dance and concert engagements in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York. For many years he has been as active member of the Paderewski Choral Society and the Polish Heritage Society, and served for fifteen years as the Director of the Pulaski Choraleers.

Throughout his career, Mr. Ossowski attempted to propagate Polish music in its many forms and has arranged both instrumental and vocal performances of lesser known Polish composers of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods. He has also composed a Polish Mass based on the Polonaise, Mazur and Kujawiak dances with string orchestra accompaniment.
