Louis 'Lewis' J. Abramczyk (1925 - 2007)
Stockroom manager, social activistLouis "Lewis" Abramczyk, 82, of West Hazleton, passed away Saturday (Sept. 22, 2007) evening at Hazleton General Hospital.
He was born in West Hazleton, son of the late John and Blanche (Lesny) Abramczyk, and lived in the West Hazleton area for all of his life.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 40 years as a stockroom manager for PP&L Electric Utilities Corporation.
He was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, West Hazleton, and was an altar server and Eucharistic minister for the parish.
He was a member of the PP&L Retirees' Club and was past president for two terms, was past exalted ruler of the Hazleton Elks Lodge for two terms, a judge of election for the first ward in West Hazleton, a former justice of the peace in West Hazleton, a charter member of the West Hazleton Community Ambulance Association, a founding solicitor for creating Hazle Township Community Park, a former coach in the West Hazleton Little League, one of the founders of the CYO Biddy Basketball league for Freeland and Hazleton, and he coached a basketball team for Transfiguration Parish School.
Surviving are his wife, the former Alyce Pochessa, to whom he was married for 63 years; a son, Louis "Skip" Abramczyk, and his wife, Donna, Sunrise, Fla.; grandsons, Christopher, Michael and Timothy Abramczyk; and sisters, Josephine Zofcin and Leona Sepnefski, born of West Hazleton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from Hilary J. Bonin Funeral Home, 99 W. Green St., West Hazleton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Transfiguration R. C. Church with the Rev. Mark G. Balczeniuk as celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. The family requests that donations in his memory be made to a charity of one's choice.
