Tom Abramski
FiremanNassau County 2001 Parade & Drill
Tom Abramski of North Branch, NY, was extended the honor of leading the 2001 Nassau County Firemen's Parade as its Grand Marshal. A long time resident of Hempstead, Tom is an honorary Chief of the Hempstead Fire Department, having completed over 50 years of Volunteer Service. As an active fireman, he served as Lieutenant, Captain, Council Warden and Department Collector. He is also Past President of the Department Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association.
During his first summer with the Department, Tom began racing as a member of the Yellow Hornets Drill Team. In the early 80's, Tom came out of retirement to join with his sons, Tommy Jr., and Joey and nephews Larry Junda and Jimmy Utter to win the New York State Drill Team Championship in 1984 and 1985.
All eyes were upon Tom as he lead the parade seated beside Bill Bielski in Engine Two's 1917 Model T Ford.
