Adamczyk Laurence F. (1915 - )Election commisioner
Adamczyk is president or state's election commissioners
Laurence F. Adamczyk, Democratic Commissioner of the Erie County Board of Elections, was installed as president of the Election Commissioners' Association of the State of New York on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 during the association's summer conference held in Cooperstown, NY.
In its 88th year, the association's membership consists of Commissioners of Boards of Elections, the executive director and deputy executive director of NYC, and employees of Boards of Elections. It is the oldest such organization in the U.S. dedicated to ensuring the public honest, effective and accessible elections.
"I look forward to leading the association at one of the busiest and perhaps most complicated but certainly exciting periods of election reform," said Adamczyk.
Adamczyk, Erie County Elections Commissioner since 1996, also serves on the New York State Task Force on Help America Vote Act Implementation. He is one of only five democrats on the Task Force, and the only Democratic Elections Commissioner from upstate and western New York.
The federal legislation, Help America Vote Act of 2002, is a package of reforms that will assure meaningful access to the democratic process for all New Yorkers. The Task Force developed a plan to implement the act's provisions and access to federal funds needed to ensure compliance.
According to Adamczyk a major provision of the plan, and the one that will especially affect voters, requires that new voting machines be installed by 2006.
