BoxerPalooka hits King with suit
by David Hafetz
A champion Polish pugilist has punched Don King with a suit, accusing the famed promoter of King his career by breaking a contract to get him regular bouts.
Tomasz Adamek, 29, the reigning WBC world light-heavyweight champ, claims King promised him four bouts a year but has landed him only two since October 2004, when they inked a contract.
Adamek, who wants $400,000 in damages from Don King Productions Inc., also charges that he's not the only fighter being sabotaged by King.
His suit, filed March 9 in Manhattan federal court, claims that Don King Productions "warehouses fighters, signing them to what appear to be lucrative and desirable contracts" but fails to "comply with those contracts."
Don King Productions "appears to have been signing more fighters than they have work for," said Patrick English, Adamek's lawyer.
The company did not return a call for comment.
English said Adamek, who has a 30-0 record with 21 knockouts, should have had at least six fights since signing with King.
"He's a good fighter ... It's impairing his ability to make a living," English said.
Adamek lives in New Jersey and Poland, his lawyer said.
"He's waiting for a fight," English said.
