Adamowicz, Matthew Sr. (1921 - 2007)

Matthew Adamowicz Sr., of East Norriton died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown. He was 85.

Born in Manayunk on May 12, 1921, he was a son of the late Thomas and Antoinette (Wnek) Adamowicz, and husband to Sarah E. (Port) Adamowicz.

Mr. Adamowicz has lived in East Norriton since 1959. He was a foreman with Container Corporation of America where he worked for over 39 years, before retiring in 1983. After retiring from CCA, he worked with Norristown School District for 10 years. He was a member of Former Penn Square Community Church. He was a friend of Fairview Church of the Nazarene and a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, crabbing and the beach. He was a sports enthusiast, especially the Phillies and Eagles. Mr. Adamowicz was also a World War II Army veteran, having served as a corporal with Battery H First Coast Artillery Battalion. He was a rifle expert and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

In addition to his wife Sarah, he is survived by two sons, Matthew (Nikki Ann) Adamowicz Jr. of Royersford and Gary (Lee Anna) Adamowicz of Lower Providence; a daughter, Antoinette (Scott) Enlow of Trappe; sister, Ann Koman of Roxboro; four grandchildren: Matthew III, Ryan, Lauren and Andrew; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Nelk and John Adamowicz.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23 at 11 a.m. from the St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Egypt and Crawford Rd., Audubon. The Rev. Thomas T. Kochenderfer will be officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.
