Felician Head Dies

Rome -- Mother Mary Alexander, Superior General of the Felician Sisters since 1958, died in Rome recently at the age of 72.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., she became editor of the Felician monthly Ave Maria; served as community supervisor of schools in Buffalo province; elected Provincial Superior of Buffalo province in 1946; and Vice Provincial to the Felician Missions in Brazil.

Canisius College, Buffalo, conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws upon her in 1963; in 1966, she was awarded the Fidelitas Medal from Orchard Lake Schools, MI (Michigan).

Mother Mary Alexander served the needs of approximately 5,000 Felician Sisters in the seven American Provinces in Livonia, Chicago, Buffalo, Lodi, Coraopolis, Enfield, Ponca City and three provinces in PolandÑCracow, Warsaw, Przemysl; three vice-provinces in Canada, Saginaw, Michigan, and Brazil and two homes in France and Germany.
