Stephen M. "Chip" Andel, 87, of Perth Amboy died recently at home.
A Mass was held in Holy Spirit Church, Perth Amboy, after the funeral from the Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, 419 Barclay St., Perth Amboy.
Mr. Andel was a mechanical foreman at Merck & Co. in Rahway, where he worked for 39 years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a staff sergeant in the Pacific and European Theaters and received a Bronze Star.
Mr. Andel was an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society and the Senior Citizens Club, all at Holy Spirit Church.
He also was treasurer and secretary of the First Catholic Slovak Union Branch 514 and a past president of the Raritan Bay Slovak American Citizens Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1352 in Hopelawn and the Rahway Knights of Columbus Council 1146.
Born in Coaldale, Pa., he lived in Perth Amboy 64 years. Surviving are Josephine, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Barbara Hook, Linda Belko and Dariene Chruscicki; a son, Stephen; brothers, Paul and Frank; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
