Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Augustin Observe 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Augustin, Jr. of Clarks Summit, PA, recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were married June 15, 1952, in Holy Mother of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Church, Dupont, PA, by the late Very Rev. Michael Zawadzki, uncle of the bride. They were attended by Evelyn Zawacki Hoffman and the late Sigmund Augustin.

Mrs. Augustin is the former Matilda Zawacki, daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Zawacki of Dupont. Prior to retirement, she was employed in the office of Dr. Walter H. Fordham.

Mr. Augustin is the son of the late Mary and Michael Augustin, Sr., charter members of St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral. He was a music teacher in Lansford and the Blakely-Peckville School District and is retired from the Abington Heights School District.

They marked the occasion with a mass of thanksgiving in St. Stanislaus Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Anthony Mikovsky, assisted by Rev. Walter Placek, and Rev. Dariusz Raczek. Also, a dinner party at Fiorelli's was hosted by the family followed by an open house at the Augustin residence.

Michael has volunteered his services to the music program of St. Stanislaus Cathedral for the past 48 years. He has directed the St. Cecilia Youth Choir, Choral Group, Kalina and Chopin Choir, Scranton Circle Choir, and for the past 17 years worked with the Cathedral Chorale.

He attended the first Music Workshop of the PNCC in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1977, at the Music Workshop at Mount Airy Lodge, he served as clinician and general director.

Through the years he directed many church concerts and was general director of the PNC 75th anniversary concert in 1972 at the Masonic Temple in Scranton. He was general director of the many musical events commemorating the 1OOth anniversary of the Polish National Catholic Church in 1997. He is on the faculty of Savonarola Theological Seminary and a member of the National Liturgical Commission.

In 1985, he served as chairman of the committee that raised funds and coordinated the monumental project to install a new Austin pipe organ in St. Stanislaus Cathedral.

Both he and Mrs. Augustin taught School of Christian Living and were delegates to church synods for the past 20 years. Mrs. Augustin also served as secretary of the Spojnia Credit Union, worked the church flea markets, the organ fund drive and went to Spojnia Manor for 10 years to do the ladies' hair with the Friends of Spojnia Manor.

Mr. and Mrs. Augustin are members of the Polish National Union of America.
