Joseph John Augustyn (1917 - 2004)
Military, WW II veteranJoseph John Augustyn, Colonel, U.S. Army (retired), age 87, died on May 23, 2004.
Col. Augustyn served as a commander with the Allied Forces in Europe during WW II and retired after a long distinguished military career both in active duty and the reserves.
Born in Plains, PA, he was one of 9 siblings who raised themselves with the help of an uncle after losing both parents, he later worked in the coal mines. Joe earned a football scholarship to West Chester State University, where he played starting offensive end and earned a BS degree in physics.
He later worked on military defense contracts in the Philadelphia area, he retired from the military in 1973 as Commanding Officer of the 802nd Reserve Unit in Philadelphia. Joe worked at the AEGIS Defense System in NJ until 1982.
Husband of Dorothy (nee Huber) for 60 years, father of 5 children and grandfather of 8.
Friends are invited to call Friday, May 28 from 8-10 A.M. at Weber Funeral Home, 112 Broad St. (River Road), Riverton N.J. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Sacred Heart Church, 4th St. and Linden Ave., Riverton, N.J.
