Jakicic, Joseph John
Editor. Born Nov. 4, 1889, Pittsburgh, Pa.; son of Nicolaus and Ann (Grabianowska) Jakicic. Primary education at St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Chicago, Ill. In 1902 started as a printer apprentice, at "Wielkopolanin," a weekly organ of Union of St. Joseph in Pittsburgh, Pa. In 1911 left Pittsburgh for Chicago where he was employed as a linotyper by Chicago Daily News. In 1915 appointed editor of sport page, later became city editor. From 1919 to 1921 clerk at St. Hedwig's Orphanage, Niles, Ill. Manager of "Dziennik Narodowy" (Daily National News), 1921-1923. City and sport editor of Chicago Daily News 1923-40. Since 1940 city editor of said paper. Married Victoria Graczyk of Chicago, Ill., in June, 1913; father of 5 children. After the death of his first wife in 1920, married Hedwig Uczciwek in 1925.
