Janda, VictoriaSocial worker, writer, poet. Born in Nowy Targ, Poland. Came to U.S. at the age of three with her parents, Francis and Rozalia Duda. She received her education in the parochial and public schools of Minneapolis and at the University of Minnesota. A social worker by profession, she has been engaged in social work in St. Paul and Minneapolis for the past twenty years. Prior to that time she did volunteer social work at the Drummond Hall and the North East Neighborhood House. She also organized Ladies Group 1530, P.N.A., Falcons Nest and a Ladies Choral Club. Member of the Polish Library Ass'n and librarian of the Polish Library. Past president of Group 1530, past vice president of Council 12 P.N.A. Member of Citizens Group during the first World War. At the present time she is engaged in literary work. Her Polish poetry, articles, and a short story have appeared in "Zgoda," "Dziennik Zwiazkowy," "Nowiny Minnesockie," "Polish Student Magazine," "Jaskolka," "Dziennik Chicagoski," Nowy Swiat," and in the "Antologia Poezji Polsko Amerykanskiej." Her English poetry, articles on books and art and short stories have appeared in the Minneapolis Sunday and Evening Journal, St. Paul Pioneer Press; Sunday Edition of the Kansas City Star, New American Magazine, Kaleidograph, a National Magazine of Poetry, Our Minnesota (magazine), and Golfer and Sportsman, the Anthology of Polish American Poetry, Minnesota Anthology of Verse, and the Minneapolis Skyline, an anthology. She has given readings of her poetry before the Fifth District Federation of Women's Clubs, Delta Phi Lambda, International Club, Polanie Club, and the Kowalski Weed Music Studios. Many of her poems have been read on the Sunday Hour over WDGY, during the past year. She was also given a radio interview on the Sunday Hour over WDGY at which time she read some of her poems. Member of the League of Minnesota Poets, Minneapolis Poetry Circle; past president of Delta Phi Lambda, Honorary Writing Sorority, University of Minnesota; past president of the Polanie Club; delegate of the three Polish Arts Club Conventions. A volume of her poems. "Star Hunger," was published under the auspices of Polanie, May, 1942. Mrs. Janda has completed three book-length stories in verse for children, and one in prose for older children. These stories are all based on Polish themes.
