Jarzyna Mietelski (Korczak), Aniela

84, was born in Polaniec, Poland in 1924. As a teenager, under the pseudonym "Stokrotka," Jarzyna Mietelski, along with her family, was involved in the underground resistance movement against the German occupation of Poland. After the war, Aniela spent 35 years as a principal of the first post-war preschool in Polaniec, where she gained the respect of her community by refusing to remove religious symbols from the preschool's walls against strong, and at times threatening, directives from the local Communist Party leaders. She moved to the United States after becoming a widow in 1977, and met her second husband in Reading, Pa. She later moved back to Polaniec where she lived until her death.
