John (Janusz) Majewski was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1942. He finished high-school in Warsaw and began university studies. He left Poland in 1965 and finished his studies in England. Later, he came to the United States where Fr. Michael Zembrzuski (founder of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA) assisted him in getting settled. He became the head of Quality Control at Mrs. Paul's Foods, Inc., a producer of frozen foods, where he introduced new products and production techniques.A friend of the well known Philadelphia philanthropist, Edward Piszek, he has been involved in many activities to aid Poland, including a gift to Poland of many tons of frozen food in the early 1980s. He initiated a joint venture with the Polish fishing industry in the Alaskan fisheries, and working with the Brethren Service Exchange Program, supported by the US State Department, brought engineers, technicians, and scientists to the United States for one and two year stays. On their return to Poland these individuals were able to introduce the modern methods of production that they learned in the United States. Many of them had gone on to become teachers and educators at institutions of higher learning in Poland.
In 1983 John Majewski accepted a position with Giorgio Foods, Inc. where he shortly became President and CEO. Thanks to his management and initiative the firm grew internationally. Its holding company, F & P Holding, encompasses 25 different enterprises that include factories in the USA, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, the Arab Emirates, and food producers in India and Indonesia. Giorgio Foods is mainly involved in producing frozen food and food packaging. It employs over five thousand people.
John's attention, however, is mainly focused on Poland where under F & P Holding he established the Can Pack Group whose modern facilities provide over fifty percent of the needs of the Polish market for metal packaging, and export to the countries of Eastern and Western Europe, and Asia.
In addition to professional concerns, he has always been interested in helping those in need. Over the years he has helped many of his countrymen who have come to the United States, providing them with legal and immigration advice, helping them find work, and getting settled in a new country. Often, he helped with money for lodging and transportation without expecting any return. Eventually his patriotic and humanitarian activities had come to the notice of the Vatican. In 1994 Pope John Paul II awarded him with the Pro Eccelesia et Pontifice cross.
John Majewski likes music and poetry. He is active in Polonia organizations supporting many activities with gifts of Giorgio food products and by purchasing advertising in Polonia publications. His wife, a pharmacologist, is active in the Philadelphia area, while his son, Michael, lives in a Washington, D. C. where he is a practicing lawyer. Michael Majewski speaks fluent Polish and takes part in Polish skiing events.
In 2002 he was presented with a special award in recognition for his many activities on behalf Polonia by the American Council for Polish Culture (ACPC) at their annual convention in Krakow.
